Looking ahead after a difficult year

This year has been challenging for all of us. It has been a year of firsts, lasts and many more events in between.

For me, it is no overstatement to say that it has been one of the most difficult years of my life. I have been tested to my limit but I am very happy to say that I am now out the other side and looking forward to a fresh start.

A challenging time

This year I separated from my partner and shortly afterwards I found out I had cancerous cells in my breasts. Like so many women, I dealt with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, two operations and am currently undergoing radiotherapy. I also lost my two incredible horses who have been with me for over 30 years.

These tremendously difficult events all took place during the national lockdown as the whole country was adjusting to a new normal. It was an extremely testing time but it also gave me a chance to re-evaluate my life and I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

I am hugely fortunate that there were some good things to come out of this difficult year. I have now moved to a new home in Petworth that is absolutely perfect for me. I have a beautiful orchard that I have already begun to transform into a new cutting garden for my flower arrangements and I am really excited to see how it’s coming along.

Transforming my business

The immense changes over the year have also given me time to think about the future of Francesca Sharp Flowers and focus on what gives me the most fulfilment. With this in mind, I’ve decided to concentrate on creating more wonderful wedding flowers, as well as expanding my bespoke gardening services.

I have always loved tending to plants and creating stunning gardens from even the most unassuming spaces. I’m very excited to be able to help even more people achieve this transformation in their own gardens, with my bespoke gardening service. This includes planting cutting gardens that can provide you with your very own homegrown blooms throughout the year.

Flowers for weddings and events

Of course, weddings have also been disrupted hugely by the events of this year. Whilst many couples have had to cancel their plans or dramatically downsize their weddings, I have been working to tailor my designs to smaller, more intimate gatherings.

As a small business, I am able to be flexible in my designs and I take every wedding as a unique project. I have been pleased to help many couples achieve their ideal wedding flowers even when they have had to change their plans by adapting my designs to suit the space. I believe a small, private wedding can be just as stunning as any big event.

I also have availability for next year if you are one of the many people who have had to postpone your wedding or change your plans. Please get in touch to find out more about the range of wedding flowers I can provide and start planning your perfect day today.

My promise to you

The things that make my flowers special have also not changed, despite the turmoils of 2020. My designs continue to be made from locally-sourced, seasonal flowers and foliage, much of which I grow and forage myself. Whilst my new cutting gardens are busy expanding, I am supplementing my supply of flowers with blooms from like-minded, small-scale growers who work close to my home.

I have always been committed to sustainability in my business so you can be certain that my designs are environmentally-friendly. I use upcycled containers and biodegradable packaging whenever possible and I never use oasis or plastic gardeners tape. I believe there is always a way to create beautiful designs without compromising on sustainability.

Despite the many challenges this year, I am feeling renewed and enthusiastic about what is to come. I cannot wait to get stuck in to the projects I have coming up.

I look forward to helping you find your dream flowers in the months and years to come, be it in your garden, at your wedding or as a bespoke flower display. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or queries.

Thank you for your continued support.
